Aetna Int’l names O’Cain to self-insured corporate role

Aetna International, the international arm of Hartford, Connecticut-based, NYSE-listed health insurance giant Aetna, has named Andy O’Cain to a newly-created role as business sales director, as it expands its international business.

In particular, he will be responsible for the development and growth of Aetna International’s business in the self-insured corporate sector in the UK, particularly the “larger group” market, Aetna said in announcing O’Cain’s appointment, which took effect earlier this month. This is understood to be an area of special interest at the moment for Aetna International.

O’Cain, pictured above, will be based in London, and will look after the UK market. He comes to Aetna International from Cigna Insurance Services, where he had been head of sales and business development, having previously been head of travel development.

Prior to Cigna, Andy was head of relationship management at Allianz Global Assistance, and before that held a variety of other managerial roles within Allianz and Direct Line Group, Aetna said.

Aetna executive director of distribution Damian Lenihan said O’Cain’s appointment reflected the company’s “ambitious partnership growth plans in the large group market”.

Aetna International claims to be one of the largest providers of international private medical insurance services, with more than 700,000  plan members worldwide, including expatriates, local nationals and business travellers. In 2014 Aetna acquired a major, Asia- and Middle East-focused rival in the international sector, InterGlobal.
